session 2 foot work: Ben & Carol
In this session we look to the feet and the ankle and the hinge of the ankle and bend of the knee. Do they bend forward or do they have a tendency to tilt in or out. For many this is a difficult and intense session because of the tension that we have but never seem to take note of in our feet. Let’s keep in mind that if your note sitting your standing on your fee. This is your foundation and we are changing it in the end the benefits of this work far out weigh any discomfort.
Ben: looking to see what changes continued to take place since our last session I noticed that he seemed to be even more in line or stacked the sway in his back was very minimal. Ben also commented that he seemed to have a greater stamina for his practice of martial arts.
Looking to Ben’s feet, ankle and knee bend there was a tendency for his heels to rotate in and toes to rotate out as he would bend his knees. Also his right ankle also tilted in as he would bend. Upon completion of Session 2 Ben felt that his lower leg, ankle, and foot were more stable and stronger. I saw that the tendency for his foot to rotate had decreased and that his ankle wasn’t tilting.
Carol: as we looked at what had shifted since our last session I noticed that Carol seemed to be finding order in her stance. She stood with her legs and feet under her and her feet parallel. She commented that the day or two after her first session she felt some discomfort but as that passed she felt more open. This discomfort occurs because of the changes that we are making within the body; things are shifting into a new way of organization.
Looking at Carol’s feet, ankle, and knee bend there was predominately a tendency for her knees to come together rather than go out over the second toe. Carol also commented that her arthritis on her knees had been bothering her this week and so she had not done her knee bending. Upon completion of Session 2 Carol felt more grounded and more stable in her feet and ankle and as she did a knee bend her knees didn’t bother her.
